Introduction: - Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization started in Barmer in corporation with AVT McCormic Ingredients Private Limited and Jikaka Private Limited in 2023. In Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization there are 400 women farmers are associated. The main goal of Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization is Sustainable Agriculture and identify the role of women in sustainable agriculture and growing GDP of our country India. Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization will generate employment for women in agriculture as well as other agriculture sectors and micro and small size businesses on on-farm. Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization is following “Make in India” & “vocal for Local” initiative of Indian government and Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization want to give a new identity to women by laying the foundation of small and cottage industries.

Under “Make in India” and “Vocal for Local” policy, more and more women will be provided employment and assistance will be provided by Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization for setting-up new small-scale industries so that women can get employment opportunities in every village.

Women comprise 33% of the agricultural labor force and 48% of the self-employed farmers in India. With growing urban migration by men, the agriculture sectors being managed by women. Women contribute to agriculture through multiple roles as cultivators, entrepreneurs and labors.

Agriculture one of the largest contributors to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and a driving force for country’s economic development relies heavily on women employing the largest number of women in India.
Women’s continued role in agriculture is well marked, well realized, however it is often underestimated close to 75% of the full-time workers on Indian farms are women.

In Rural India, the percentage of women who depends on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%. India’s livestock sector which is the world’s largest livestock production system over 70% livestock work is done by women. Women’s participation rate in the agriculture sector is about 47% in Tea, Plantation around 47%, in Cotton cultivation 45%, growing oil seeds and 39% in vegetables production & in Cumin around 65%.

Despite their large presence and their contribution, women farmers often are not equipped with what they need to succeed in farming. Women have less access to inputs (Seeds, fertilizer, labor, & finance), Critical services (training, insurance) and organized markets when compared to their male counterparts.

Mrs Champa Choudhury , Director

Mrs Choudhury is a farmer based in Barmer district. Apart from farming she is involved in social work and has long experience in organizing women around self-help groups. She is a MA BEd qualified farmer. She is a trainer, has travelled extensively all over India, and exposure to all the good work being done among rural populace.

Mrs Heero Devi, Director

Mrs Herero Devi is a farmer and a women activist. She has played a critical role in providing relief to women, who are victim of violence of all kinds, particularly domestic violence. She has expertise in local self-governance on village level, i.e., panchayati raj. As women activist she has participated in several training programmes organized at the state level.

Mrs Chaini Bai, Director

Mrs Chaini Bai is a farmer who lives in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. In addition to farming, she works in social work and has extensive experience addressing violence against women, promoting gender awareness, and uniting women in self-help organizations. She is BA qualified farmer. She works as a trainer and has seen firsthand the excellent job being done among the rural population throughout her extended travels throughout India.

Mrs Asha Devi, Director

Based in Undu Barmer, Rajasthan, Mrs. Asha is a farmer and a women’s campaigner. Her contribution to the alleviation of women victims of all forms of violence, especially domestic abuse, has been invaluable. She is an expert in panchayati raj, or local self-governance at the village level. She is a farmer with a BA BEd. She has taken part in multiple state-organized training programs as a female activist.

Mrs Anita Devi, Director

Mrs. Anita is a native Rajasthani farmer who resides in Undu Barmer. She has done a lot of work with female farmers. She has participated in a national push to give women employed in the agriculture industry the status of farmers. She has taken many trips and participated in numerous training sessions hosted by various organizations. She has also managed self-help groups in the past.

Maru Laxmi Farmer Producer Organization started in a corporation with women farmers in Barmer. More than 400 women farmers are associated with us.
